Each year, Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) brings together 100 exceptionally gifted young musicians from over 20 countries of the Western Hemisphere – to unite their talents and cultural backgrounds in a world class symphony orchestra. Musicians are selected from a rigorous audition process at local, national and international levels. The finest, between ages 18 and 30, are chosen to participate.
All musicians participate on a full scholarship to achieve the greatest diversity possible. The cost of participation, including musical training, living, and travel expenses for the year-long program is U.S.$10,000 per musician.
YOA offers training with a music faculty from the most respected institutions and professional orchestras in the world. Beyond intensive music studies, YOA participants discover much about the diverse cultures of their fellow musicians while broadening their understanding of people and places where YOA performs. All musicians participate in full orchestra and smaller ensemble tours, as well as cultural and social gatherings, sightseeing excursions, local school and community exchanges. As musical ambassadors on tour, they interact with local students, teachers, arts patrons, government leaders and audience members, carrying with them YOA’s mission to promote the highest standards of achievement, both musically and in their everyday lives.
